Is a 5th Wheel Camper Right for You?

Some say there’s no better way to view the country than by automobile, however, from the majestic snow-capped mountains to the sands of the desert land, campers and motor homes have proven to be the best ways to travel. A motor home is drivable and a 5th wheel is towable, and while both provide a unique perspective from which to see the country, 5th wheel campers have some distinct advantages, and used 5th wheel campers tend to have the same advantages as the newer ones.

5th Wheel Camper

When the destination is reached, a 5th wheel can be parked and unhooked. This allows for the towing vehicle to be driven on its own to places a motor home could not go. In this way, the 5th wheel camper is actually more convenient.

These campers are called 5th wheels, because they are attached to the bed of a heavy-duty truck using a goose-neck hitch, which provides great stability while the camper is being towed. The special connection to the bed has all but eliminated complaints about swaying. The truck can be short bed or long bed, but the tow weight of the truck cannot be less than its maximum towing capability when connecting to a 5th wheel camper.

The 5th wheel camper usually features more room inside. The amenities can include a full kitchen that is complete with a refrigerator, microwave, hot and cold running water and a kitchen isle. Additionally, there is a master bedroom, other rooms, and living room area with a couch and reclining chairs. Several models that Heartland has for sale provide all these amenities and more
